Serenades for the Ocean: A playlist
Hey guys! Remember that trip to Digha I told you all about? Well, We went there (my mom, my elder cousin and I), had the most enjoyable time and we’ve been back for a looong time now, so you can understand that I’m just being real early on this post. Sorry! 😛 Anyway, since I couldn’t bring back any gifts for you lovely people (in my defence, I stayed away from all the shopping part, spending the time at the beach instead), I’ve got something else to share with you all. A playlist! 😀 More specifically, a playlist of songs that make me feel connected to the sea, somehow. In other words, my ideal beach music. So tune in your ears, folks! 😉
1. How I Became The Sea – Owl City
This is the first song, the very first, that comes to my mind when I’m thinking of the ocean. You say ‘sea’, I think ‘How I became The Sea’. ❤ That’s just how it is.
Just have a look at this video!
And is it just me, or does this song remind anyone of Percy Jackson? 😉
2. A Thousand Years – Christina Perri
There’s something about the calm serenity of this song that connects me to a quiet sea. Not to mention the infinite-ish mood that it possesses…
3. Your Face – Taylor Swift
“I wish the sky had your face
And the oceans had your eyes
And the sunset had your lips
And I had you”
Do I even need to explain?
4. Fix You – Coldplay
That’s the sea right there, saying those words to me.
5. Yellow – Coldplay
I’m not sure how exactly this song makes me think of the sea, but it does. Its tune, maybe?
Ah, Chris Martin agrees with me! Look at this video…
6. You Just Wait and See – C21
This song just goes with every mood of mine, you know?
7. Breakaway – Kelly Clarkson
Makes me become a retrospective observer of my own life. The decisions I’ve made, the hurt, the happiness… I’m looking back on everything, but with a broader perspective.
8. Cradled In Love – Poets of the Fall
Just listen to the first stanza. And then keep listening to the rest of the song. I’m sure I won’t need to explain.
9. Can I have This Dance – Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens
A little bit of romantic warmth for the heart, right beside the sea. 😉
10. Crushed and Created – Caitlyn Smith
Hope. It is the only thing stronger than fear. (and if you caught the THG reference, then I love you)
Just listen to this song with the small waves crashing near your feet, their soft sound providing a background music in your ears… you’ll get what I mean.
11. Damn You Seventeen – Lady Antebellum
Nostalgia, guys? It’s the perfect emotion for a night visit to the beach.
12. The Lonely – Christina Perri
With its sometimes measured, sometimes flying notes, this song feels like the ocean is here to caress your already-nostalgic heart with a bit more brokenness.
13. I’m Alive – Celine Dion
And this one to shift you out of your nostalgia. You’re alive and living and a free spirit. What more could you possibly want?
14. Jesus, Take the Wheel – Lady Antebellum
Another bit of hope, this one mixed with surrender and faith. If you’re having a rocky time in your life, like those waves crashing against the stony beach, watch them calm down with the receding tide, while listening to this song. The effect is beautiful. ❤
15. Let It Go – Idina Menzel
A restless sea again, only this one is insistent on displaying its increasing strength. Whatever burden you have, let it go, and perhaps you will feel that same power within you as well.
16. Long Live – Taylor Swift
I don’t know why, but the chorus of this song reminds me strongly and invariably of waves crashing against the shore…
17. Keep Holding On – Avril Lavigne
Okay, this song just pops up with a different kind of meaning every time I hear it, so I’m gonna skip trying to explain this one. Just think of the vast ocean, and listen to the song, and maybe you’ll get what I mean.
18. Hush Hush – Avril Lavigne
Life, bitterness, moving on… with the ocean by your side.
19. Safe and Sound – Taylor Swift
It’s soft and soothing, like the small waves of water playing at your feet. Hope. I just can’t have enough of it.
20. Innocence – Avril Lavigne
This is probably just me, but I love listening to this song right after I’ve heard Safe and Sound. Besides, it does resonate with the beach mood, in a way.
21. Butterfly Fly Away – Miley Cyrus
Yeah, I know it’s Miley Cyrus, but don’t wrinkle your noses just yet. This is probably the most innocent song in the entire universe and I always listen to it at the beach. This playlist would be incomplete if I didn’t mention this one. ❤
So that’s it, peeps! Did this playlist help you feel connected to the sea, somehow? At least a tiny bit? Do let me know by commenting! 🙂
