What Are You Reading Wednesday #1

What Are You Reading Wednesday is a weekly feature on It’s A Reading Thing. Just grab the book you are currently reading and answer three questions:
1. What’s the name of your current read?
2. Go to page 34 in your book or 34% in your eBook and share a couple of sentences.
3. Would you like to live in the world that exists within your book? Why or why not?

Well, I’m reading three books right now, but the one I’m gonna talk about is The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. It’s the story of a boy called Nobody Owens (a.k.a. Bod) who’s grown up in a graveyard, with ghosts who have brought him up like family. And no, as horror-ish as that sounds, it’s really quite sweet a scenario (well, there was a murder in the beginning, but that’s about it). I’m almost to the end right now; guess I’ll have it finished by tonight.

Here’s a paragraph from pg 34:

The people kept asking Scarlett what had happened to her, and she answered, as honestly as she could, told them about a boy called Nobody who took her deep inside a hill where a purple tattoo man appeared in the dark, but he was really a scarecrow. They gave her a chocolate bar and they wiped her face and asked if the tattooed man had ridden a motorbike, and Scarlett’s mother and father, now that they were relieved and not afraid for her any longer, were angry with themselves and with her, and they
told each other that it was the other one’s fault for letting their little girl play in a cemetery, even if it was a nature reserve, and that the world was a very dangerous place these days, and if you didn’t keep your eyes on your children every second you could not imagine what awful things they would be plunged into.

As for the last question, yes, I would totally love to live in this world! Growing up in a graveyard and learning cool tricks from your ghost-family… what’s not to love? Well, actually, there is something not to love: Bod lost his entire family right at the beginning of the book, and his life remains under constant threat. Hmmm… not cool. 😦 And I’m pretty sure I’d want to sneak out every now and then to see the living world outside. But then again, if Silas brought me enough books to read, I’m sure I could coaxed to stay inside. 😉 Overall, I’m thinking the answer is a YES.
